Biography:
Mark Darmanin serves as the Director of Operations for Broward County Water and Wastewater Services. The Division is responsible for billions of dollars in assets, has a $85 million-dollar operating budget and over 260 employees ranging from maintenance workers to Professional Engineers.
Mr. Darmanin is currently responsible for Broward County’s:
• Raw water transmission network
• The raw and potable water supply programs
• Two water treatment facilities
• The potable water transmission and distribution systems
• The wastewater collection system
• The wastewater treatment facility
• The wastewater disposal system for effluent and solids
• Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
• A NELAC certified laboratory
• Compliance and Enforcement
Mr. Darmanin received an Associate of Arts from Broward Community College, a Bachelor of Public Management, and a Master of Public Administration Degree from Florida Atlantic University.
Mr. Darmanin uses significant judgment when evaluating processes, personnel, and equipment. He is proud of the team he has built and credits them for a large portion of the organization’s success.
Mr. Darmanin assumed his current role on December 15, 2013. He has over 30 years of experience in the operation of a municipally owned utility. He is licensed by the State of Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection as a Level 1 Distribution System Operator. Over his career, he has earned numerous certifications, awards and recognitions, The American Water Works Association (AWWA) Distribution System of the year, the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) Collection system of the year, the FWEA Earle B. Phelps Award for “Outstanding Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Performance”, FWEA’s Utility Management and Operational Performance Excellence Award and most recently the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Professional Manager of the Year in Administrative Management.
Mr. Darmanin’s leadership and dedication to operational excellence continues to make a significant impact on Broward County by ensuring a reliable and compliant system for the community he serves.
