Description

In November 1974 the Gold Coast Branch was recognized and established. At that time, District XI consisted of Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Martin County was part of District VIII. In 1991 the Florida Chapter by-laws changes District XI to include Palm Beach County only. Broward County moved to District XII. Today the Branch consists of Martin and Palm Beach Counties.

Martin County was established in 1925. It was named for John W. Martin, Governor of Florida from 1925 to 1929. The county is made up of 556 square miles of land and 197 square miles of water. The total area is 26.19% water. Martin County is a place of ease, unhurried, full of natural beauty and a preserved past. Just north of Palm Beach it has that small-town charm, secluded beaches, wide-open skylines, exceptional natural areas.

Palm Beach County is the largest county in the state in regard to area. It is the third most populous county in the state. Its largest city is West Palm Beach with a population of over 105,000. Boca Raton is the second largest with a population of almost 90,000. Boynton Beach is third largest with a population nearing 70,000. With wealthy coastal towns such as Palm Beach, Jupiter, Manalapan and Boca Raton, as well as equestrian Wellington and golfing haven Palm Beach Gardens, Palm Beach County is Florida’s wealthiest county.

APWA Gold Coast meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month.
