Sam May is the Public Works/Utilities Director for the City of North Lauderdale and has been there since 2019. Sam began working for the City of Margate’s Engineering Department in 1988 and after 15 years he transferred to the Public Works Department where he worked for another 14 years. He retired from the City of Margate after serving as the City Manager for two and a half years. Sam began his collegiate studies at the University of Florida and completed them with a Master of Arts degree in Administrative Studies from Barry University.

Sam is the Past-President of the South Florida Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) and is a Past-President of the Florida Chapter of the APWA. Sam has served on various committees at the Branch, State, and National Levels of APWA. He was also honored with the Top Ten Leader Award from APWA in 2018.

Sam is an avid scuba diver and saltwater fisherman. He has two sons, Hank and Ben, and one step-son Dylan. Sam is married to Leslie May, the former City Clerk for the City of Coconut Creek.
