Congratulations to Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency and their partners for winning the APWA National Award for Structures less than $5 Million for project: Southwest Greenways & Debbie Lightsey Nature Park

Project Summary
The Southwest Greenways and Debbie Lightsey Nature Park Project was a unique journey to bring Tallahassee’s premier nature park to life. Through the inclusion of a wide variety of features, such as elevated boardwalks, multi‐use trails, nature signs, picnic pavilions, and a play area, the project provided both recreational and educational opportunities while showcasing the simplistic beauty of nature.

The scenic greenspaces and amenities are the result of extensive collaboration between local agencies, residents, and community groups.

The project presented a variety of environmental and design challenges. The following key factors contributed to the success of the project:

  • A timely and targeted virtual public involvement phase at the beginning of the COVID pandemic period.
  • Decision to use the Top‐down Construction Method for the elevated boardwalks.
  • Extensive coordination between Blueprint IA Staff, the Consultant, and the Contractor prior to construction to discuss project details and develop the project schedule.
